Teaching
Lessons
Donald has over 30 years experience teaching flutists of all ages and levels. He specifically tailors the lessons to each student's ability and goals. The repertoire chosen is designed to fit the student's needs for tone, technique and musicianship while providing musical growth and inspiration, and also interest and enjoyment. He incorporates many styles of music to make lessons fun and engaging to help achieve the student's objectives.
Chamber Music Coaching
A great way to supplement private lessons is through Chamber music. Participation encourages listening, intonation, phrasing, rhythm and musicianship skills. A thrilling and fun way to make music and build skills in leadership! A great way to work with your friends or meet new people. Donald coaches both flute choir music and mixed ensembles of many combinations.
Donald is available to conduct masterclasses, flute clinics, sectionals or flute symphony readings to students at elementary, intermediate or advanced college level.
Flute Symphony
Donald is founder and director of South Shore Conservatory's Flute Symphony, the largest flute symphony in the United States. Every amateur flutist can find a home with this summer program, which is offered at three levels of expertise. Flute Symphony acquaints students with a variety of music styles, from baroque and classical, to "pop" and jazz, and introduces the music of present-day composers. Students gain stronger skills in reading, intonation, listening, breathing, improvisation, phrasing and musicianship, and learn to think in terms of harmony as well as melody.
